CSA Apprentice recognised as New Employee of the Year

“Jonathan has demonstrated outstanding performance throughout his probationary period, consistently exceeding expectations for an Apprentice Trading Standards Officer. From an early stage, he showed exceptional enthusiasm, professionalism and a strong grasp of both the practical and administrative aspects of his role. He has proactively embraced every training opportunity available to him, completing all required courses and seeking additional learning through internal and external partners. Notably, Jonathan has already taken part in complex operational work beyond what would normally be expected at this stage, including test purchasing operations, a PACE interview, joint enforcement activity with Essex Police, and initiating an investigation into the sale of counterfeit weight-loss drugs. His calm, empathetic approach when dealing with residents, businesses and partner agencies has been repeatedly praised, and he is now regarded as a trusted and well-respected member of the Trading Standards team.

Jonathan has gone above and beyond by proactively identifying opportunities to improve service delivery and intelligence led enforcement. During his probation in preparation for a new licensing regime, he independently developed a comprehensive convenience store database for Southend, mapped this data geographically and designed a business risk-assessment process to better target high-risk premises. This forward-thinking work demonstrates exceptional initiative, analytical ability and a strong understanding of regulatory priorities, particularly impressive given his apprentice status. He has also contributed to public facing work, including supporting a presentation to a large audience at South Essex College. Jonathan's reliability, willingness to support colleagues and consistent commitment to public protection makes him an outstanding candidate for New Employee of the Year.”
