The Learner Voice: Issue One
From apprentice to professional: Wise words from recent graduates
Discover how CSA Learning Central helps graduates like James and Benjamin achieve career success through impactful apprenticeships and valuable feedback, leading to promotions and enhanced expertise.
We're delighted to celebrate a fantastic achievement for James at the Bank of England who, since completing our Senior Compliance & Risk Specialist Apprenticeship, has been promoted. Reflecting on his experience, James shared how completing the apprenticeship supported his career progression:
“I was recently promoted into a new team, and I believe that completing this apprenticeship had a direct impact on being successful. The new role is in a Compliance team and so directly related to the course itself.”
When asked what advice James would give to learners on programme, he said:
“I'd advise being inquisitive and engaged. With the workshops especially, the tutor can only give so much. If you and the rest of your cohort are active and engaged with each other, you will get a lot more out of the sessions.”
Another learner, Benjamin from Hampshire County Council, who completed our Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship earlier this year has also been promoted. When asked how completing the apprenticeship supported his career progression, Benjamin said:
“I have a lot of experience without the academic qualifications to support that experience. Supplementing my experience with a qualification makes me more employable and I have been able to apply what I have learnt in my apprenticeship to my day-to-day work in order to secure a senior position within my department.”
Benjamin's experience demonstrates the value of continuous professional development and the positive impact apprenticeships can have on career progression. Looking ahead, we asked Benjamin about his career and learning goals for the next 12-24 months. He said:
“To start a level 6 trading standards qualification which will hopefully leave me in a good position as my current employer is undergoing local government reorganisation.”
We are pleased to see learners achieving success in their careers and we are proud to have supported their development. Congratulations from everyone at CSA Learning and the wider Credit Services Association team.
Finally, we'd like to share feedback from a recent graduate of the Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship, reflecting on their experience and the impact of the programme:
“I came from a retail background, having worked in our betting offices for 8 years, then moving to head office as part of our retail customer service team. Through a combination of promotions and restructuring, I found myself working in compliance with no real experience or knowledge of the wider compliance world. Whilst I felt comfortable doing the day-to-day work I was doing, where questions were asked about why we did things this way, or fringe cases crept up, I found I had to turn to by line manager for advice before responding or add them to conversations so they could answer the questions posed.
Since completing the Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer course with CSA, I’ve found that I have the knowledge and the confidence to be able to answer those questions myself and feel like the expert in my subject area once again. It’s also enabled me to have more informed conversation with other departments to improve related areas of the business, which has helped me concentrate on things that are more meaningful. This is all due to the knowledge, skills and behaviours I learned and improved throughout the apprenticeship.
In regard to the CSA, the onboarding and course layout was a fairly straightforward. I found both my course tutor and coach to be knowledgeable and relatable. I’d not been in an education setting for a long time prior to doing the apprenticeship but they put me at ease immediately.” Regulatory Compliance Officer Graduate, Evoke Plc, July 2025
